Dave Grohl has revealed that he attempted to get both Weezer and Barry Manilow to record tracks for his upcoming Sound City - Real to Reel soundtrack. The album follows his widely praised documentary, Sound City, which tells the story of the famed Los Angeles recording studio of the same name.

"I was this f*****g close to getting them on a record. I thought it was going to happen, it would've been f*****g huge," he told Britain's The Sun.

"He [Manilow] was the first person who said he'd do it but was the last we tracked down. And we had to fly to f*****g Hawaii."

In addition to the album and film, Grohl also assembled an all-star band called the Sound City Players. That band includes Krist Novoselic, Stevie Nicks, Rick Springfield and Rick Nielsen among others.
