TSX Edges Up At Open Friday

Bay Street stocks edged up at open Friday amid buying in commodities, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index adding 26.70 points or 0.21 percent to 12,826.60.

In the oil patch, paramount Resources (POU.TO) and Encana Corp. (ECA.TO) were up over 1 percent each.

Conventional oil and gas company Crescent Point Energy (CPG.TO) gained close to 2 percent after reporting a wider fourth-quarter net loss

Among gold plays, Goldcorp. (G.TO), Barrick Gold (ABX.TO) and Agnico-Eagle Mines (AEM.TO) were up around 1 percent each.

In the base-metals space, Teck Resources (TCK_B.TO) gained about 1 percent.

Communications services company TELUS Corp. (T.TO) edged up 0.50 percent after it said that its Board of Directors has approved a two-for-one stock split of the company's outstanding common shares

Bio pharmaceutical company Cardiome Pharma Corp. (COM.TO) swung to profit in the fourth quarter of 2012. The stock dived 2.50 percent.
