Spanish core inflation remained unchanged even as headline inflation slowed, data released by the statistical office INE showed Friday.

The core consumer price index, which excludes fresh food and energy, was 2.3 percent in March, unchanged from February. The figure is the highest since October last year, when it was 2.5 percent.

Overall CPI inflation was 2.4 percent in March, down from 2.8 percent in February. The figure was in line with the preliminary estimates. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.4 percent in March, after a 0.2 percent rise in February.

The harmonized index of consumer prices, or HICP, rose 2.6 percent annually, which was slower than the 2.9 percent gain in February, but matched the initial estimates.

The figure is the lowest since July last year. The index, which is meant for EU comparison, rose 1.9 percent from the previous month.
