Colic in babies may be linked with migraine headaches, says a new study from researchers at the APHP Hospital Robert Debre in Paris, France. For the study the researchers reviewed health records of 200 children between the ages of 6 and 18 who had been diagnosed with migraines.
Those records were compared to 120 kids who suffered routine tension headaches and another 471 who had been treated for other forms of trauma. They found that 73 percent of the kids suffering from migraines had also suffered colic as babies, as compared to just 26.5 percent of those who did not suffer migraines.
"It is already known that migraine can show with intestinal pain in childhood," said study senior author Dr. Luigi Titomanlio. "Our results suggest that infantile colic could represent a form of migraine with age-specific expression."
