Bruce Springsteen has been elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, joining actor Robert De Niro, actress Sally Field and folk legend Pete Seeger as new members of the academy.

"Election to the Academy honors individual accomplishment and calls upon members to serve the public good," said Academy President Leslie C. Berlowitz.

"We look forward to drawing on the knowledge and expertise of these distinguished men and women to advance solutions to the pressing policy challenges of the day."

Rolling Stone recently named Springsteen's 2012 release Wrecking Ball as the number one album of 2012 on their Top 50 albums of 2012 list. The Boss finished second only to Madonna as the top money making artist of last year with $33.44 million.
