President Obama spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin today about reports that Syria has used chemical weapons to quell its anti-government uprising.
The White House issued a statement saying Obama and Putin spoke via telephone, with Obama "underscoring his concern over Syrian chemical weapons."
The two leaders agreed to maintain communications on the issue and said their respective foreign ministers and secretaries would conduct further talks.
Last week, the White House said it had evidence that chemical weapons had been used in Syria on at least two occasions, but made no specific mention of further action.
The Syrian government vehemently denies using chemical weapons, saying the accusations do not have any credibility.
