Spreadtrum Communications Q1 Profit Down

Spreadtrum Communications Inc.'s (SPRD) first-quarter net income attributable to the company totaled US$20.2 million, down from US$23.9 million in the prior year quarter. Net income per ADS for the quarter was US$0.38, compared to US$0.47 last year.

The Company's Non-GAAP net income per ADS was US$0.50, compared with US$0.57 per ADS in the year ago quarter.

Revenue in the first-quarter totaled US$189.01 million, up from US$161.11 million in the year ago quarter.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.38 per share on revenues of $184.42 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Looking ahead, Spreadtrum expects revenue for the second quarter to be in the range of US$220 million - US$228 million, with a slight improvement in gross margin relative to the first quarter 2013. Analysts expect the company to report revenues of $205.00 million for the second-quarter.
