Rare Beatles Guitar Played By John Lennon And George Harrison Arrives In London

A rare guitar played by both John Lennon and George Harrison is on display at the Stafford London Hotel before it goes up for auction at Julien's Auctions in New York on May 18. The guitar was a gift from Lennon to his friend Alex Mardas in 1967.

On the back of the instrument, there is a plaque which reads "To Magic Alex / Alexi thank you / for been [sic] a friend / 2-5-1967 John."

The guitar, one of a few known existing that was played by both Lennon and Harrison, is expected to fetch between $200,000 and $300,000.

There is video of Harrison playing the guitar on "I Am the Walrus" during the 1967 Magical Mystery tour, while Lennon played it in a promo vid for "Hello, Goodbye."
