Japan Leading Index Declines In March

A leading indicator of the Japanese economy decreased in March after recording strong growth in the previous month, data released by the Cabinet Office showed Friday.

The leading economic index decreased modestly to 97.6 in March from a revised 97.7 in the previous month. Economists had forecast the index to rise to 97.7 from February's originally reported 97.6.

Meanwhile, the coincident economic index, which measures the current economic situation, rose to 93.3 in March from 92.5 in the previous month.

The lagging index, a measures of the past performance of the economy, moved up to 87.1 from 86 in February, data showed.
