Growth in New Zealand's manufacturing sector improved in April amid continued momentum in new orders, a survey by Bank of New Zealand and BusinessNZ showed Thursday.

"Results over the last four months provide a regular pattern of growth, which has been assisted by strong activity for new orders, both domestic and offshore," BusinessNZ's executive director for manufacturing Catherine Beard said.

New orders index jumped to 59.4 in April from 55.6 in March. The production index climbed to 55.3 from 53 in the previous month.
