Japan's industrial producer increased in March at a faster rate than estimated earlier, final data released by the Ministry of Trade and Industry showed Thursday.
Industrial production gained a seasonally adjusted 0.9 percent month-on-month in March, faster than the 0.2 percent recorded in the initial estimates. The growth rate was also higher than 0.6 percent seen in February.
Compared to March 2012, industrial production decreased 6.7 percent in, indicating an improvement from the preliminary estimates which showed a 7.3 percent fall.
Total shipments in the sector moved up 1.2 percent month-on-month in March, compared to flash estimates for a 0.3 percent rise. Year-on-year, however, shipments decreased by 5 percent.
Meanwhile, capacity utilization in the Japanese industrial sector dropped a seasonally adjusted 0.8 percent month-on- month in March, in contrast to the 0.7 percent increase initially estimated. Annually, capacity utilization fell by 8.1 percent during the month.
