Poland's core inflation unexpectedly accelerated in April, after weakening in the previous month, latest data showed.
Net inflation as per the consumer price index, excluding food and energy, increased to 1.1 percent in April from 1 percent in March, the central bank said Thursday. In February, the inflation rate was 1.1 percent. Economists had forecast the net inflation to weaken to 0.9 percent in April.
Core consumer prices increased a seasonally adjusted 0.6 percent compared to March, when they rose by 0.3 percent. The index was expected to gain 0.4 percent month-on-month.
Poland's consumer price inflation weakened to 0.8 percent in April from 1 percent in March and 1.3 percent in February. Sequentially, consumer prices rose at a faster rate of 0.4 percent than the previous month's 0.2 percent, data showed.
The Polish economy expanded at a slower rate of 0.4 percent year-on-year in the first quarter than 0.7 percent in the three months ended December 2012, marking the fifth successive deceleration in growth.
