Over $1 million dollars of jewelry to be loaned to celebrities at the Cannes Film Festival have been stolen from a safe in the Novotel Hotel room, reports the BBC.
The safe was in the room of an employee of Chopard, a Swiss jeweler, which is also one of the festival's sponsors. The theft went down on Thursday night, just as the fest was getting under way, according to Reuters.
On the fest's opening night, Chopard's gems had been loaned out to celebs like Julianne Moore, Cara Delevingne, Lana Del Rey, Freida Pinto and Cindy Crawford.
A source, speaking with the Telegraph, said the safe was ripped right out of the wall and taken by the thieves. Chopard has not commented on the theft, nor have authorities mentioned any leads.
