According to Variety, the film is based on Stephen Sondheim's 1987 Broadway musical. The plot centers on a childless baker and his wife as they attempt to lift a family curse by going into the enchanted woods to confront the witch that cast the spell on them.

During their titular trip, the family meets a host of characters from fairy tales including Rapunzel, Cinderella, Jack form Jack the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. Depp is rumored for the Wolf role.

Blunt's most recent venture, "All You Need Is Kill," with Tom Cruise just wrapped and will hit theaters next year.
