Japan's Supermarket Sales Fall In April

Japan's supermarket sales declined 1.9 percent year-on-year in April, the Japan Chain Stores Association said Tuesday. The annual decline reversed the 1.7 percent increase in March.

Before store adjustment, sales grew 0.3 percent.

Citing revival in exports and factory output, the Japanese government on Monday upgraded its assessment of the economy for the first time in two months.
