Trevor Bolder, the one-time bassist for both David Bowie and Uriah Heep, has died of cancer at the age of 62. Bolder recorded four albums with Bowie during the 1970s: Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane and Pinups.

"Trevor was a wonderful musician and a major inspiration for whichever band he was working with," Bowie posted to Facebook after hearing the news of Bolder's death. "But he was foremostly a tremendous guy, a great man."

After working with Bowie, Bolder went on to play with Heep in 1976. He played with the group in two stints (1976-1981 and 1983-2013) over the years.

A statement from the band said: "It is with great sadness that Uriah Heep announce the passing of our friend the amazing Trevor Bolder, who has passed away after his long fight with cancer."

"Trevor was an all-time great," the statement continued. "One of the outstanding musicians of his generation, and one of the finest and most influential bass players that Britain ever produced."
