Missouri Overpass Collapses After Two Freight Trains Collide; 7 Injured

The National Transportation Safety Board said Saturday that at approximately 2:30 AM CDT a Union Pacific freight train and a BNSF freight train collided in Scott City, Missouri under a highway overpass causing them to derail and partially collapse the overpass. A post-crash fire was reported.

Reports said Seven people were injured in the train collision. Of the seven injured people, five were in cars on the overpass and the other two train workers.

All seven patients were discharged from the hospital by Saturday afternoon, the reports said.

The NTSB noted that it has launched a go-team to investigate this morning's collision and derailment in Scott City.

The NTSB stated that the Senior Rail Investigator Mike Flanigon will serve as the investigator-in-charge. The NTSB Board Member Robert Sumwalt is accompanying the team and will serve as the principal spokesperson during the on-scene phase of the investigation. Public Affairs Specialist Terry Williams will also be on scene in Scott City to coordinate media related activities.
