Confidence among Lithuanian households improved to the highest level in five years in May, driven mainly by more positive assessment of the general economic situation, data released by the Lithuanian Department of Statistics showed Thursday.
The consumer confidence index advanced to -9 in May from -11 in April. In May 2012, the reading was -19.
Driving the upturn in moral, the measure of respondents' views of the country's economic situation in the next twelve months climbed to 5 from 1 in the previous month.
Consumers were also more upbeat in May about the prospects for improvement in their personal finances. The corresponding sub-indicator advanced to 1 from -1 in April.
Lithuanian households were less downbeat about the possibility of saving in the next 12-month period, with the relevant indicator rising to -34 in May from -36 April. The index measuring sentiment regarding unemployment dropped to 8 from 10, data showed.
