Authorities in Texas City, Texas are investigating an incident involving a home robbery involving two suspects and the owner of the house, where it appears the gunfire was exchanged resulting in the death of one of the suspects.
Local television station KTRK reports that Enrique Herrera, 60, was parking his car in his driveway when he was approached by the two male suspects on both sides of his car and a=had asked him to "give it up."
Herrera was armed with a weapon at the time and pulled out his gun, however, so did one of the suspects. The two exchanged gunfire, resulting in Herrera suffering a wound to his upper thigh and one of the suspects, Lekenvrick Deon Nelson, 26, of La suffering a gunshot wound to the chest. Nelson was found dead by authorities across the street from Herrera's residence.
Local television station KHOU reports that the other suspect involved, Jermaine White, 24, was arrested by authorities a few blocks away from where the incident took place.
"All we heard is a couple gunshots, about five or six bullets," said Herrera's neighbor, Jimmy Benavides. "If he didn't have a gun on him he'd be dead right now most likely. "Oh yes, anybody threatens my kids or my family, I'm gonna shoot 'em point blank."
