New registrations of passenger cars in Finland increased from last year in May, data released by Statistics Finland showed Thursday.
The number of new cars registered in May climbed 39.8 percent annually to 10,228 units. The share of new diesel-driven passenger cars was 36.8 percent. The growth in sales was driven mainly by the recent change in automobile taxes, which led to an increase in demand.
In the January-May period, a total of 47,727 passenger cars were registered in Finland, lower by 19.4 percent than in the same period a year earlier.
At the same time, the number of all motor vehicles vehicles sold in May increased 8.2 percent on an annual basis to 19,314 units in May. In the first five months of the year, vehicle sales decreased 19.4 percent annually, data showed.
