A British man damaged to a portrait of the Queen in Westminster Abbey in the name of parenting rights for fathers.

The 41-year-old suspect is part of Fathers4Justice, a campaign group fighting for equal parenting rights. While many visitors at the Westminster Abbey were at lunch, Tim Haries spray painted the word "Help" across the oil canvas-the work of an Australian-born artist, UK's Daily Mail reports.

Haries was wrestled to the ground by guards after he defaced the queen, and held until police arrived to the scene. He was arrested on charges of suspicion of criminal damage worth $5,000 in Euros.

Another member from the Fathers 4 Justice, said that specific portrait was targeted, because her 'badge' is on the wall of "every family court in the country." The campaigner said, "We need equality in the family courts," UK's Daily Mail reports.

A Westminster Abbey spokesman said: "Until work can be done to remedy the damage it will - very regrettably - not be possible to have the painting on public view."

The divorced father of two daughters recently appeared in court, where he entered no plea and was bailed until the end of June.
