Speaker of the House John Boehner said on Sunday that Congress should be judged by how many laws it has repealed instead of by the number of the scant few it has approved.
Speaking on CBS' "Face the Nation," the Ohio Republican defended Congress' record, even though it is on pace to become the least productive Congress in history. It so far has passed just 15 bills that President Barack Obama has signed into law.
"We're in a divided government," Boehner said. "We're fighting for what we believe in."
He added that the country has way too many laws already and some of them should be eliminated.
The preceding Congress holds the current record for futility with just 23 approved laws.
The gridlocked Congress has an approval rating of approximately 15 percent.
