The leader of the Gulf Cartel, a cocaine trafficking organization in Mexico, was caught on Saturday morning by Mexican security forces.
Reuters reports that 51-year-old Mario Ramirez Trevino, known as X-20 or "The Bald One," was arrested in Mexico's northern Tamaulipas state. Ramirez is the second major gang boss captured in Mexico in a little over one month.
A $5 million bounty had been set by the U.S. government for Ramirez, who had only been in power since last September when former cartel leader Jorge Costilla, also known as "El Coss," was arrested.
Over 70,000 people were killed during former president Felipe Calderon's aggressive six-year attack against drug cartels. President Enrique Pena Nieto, who took office last December, had pledged to lower the amount of violence in the country and re-evaluate Mexico's security strategy.
