Adviser to Russian President on sports affairs Alexander Abramov has been sacked ahead of the Sochi 2014 Olympics.

President Vladimir Putin relieved Abramov of his duties as presidential adviser on Monday, said a Kremlin statement without attributing any reason for the dismissal.

Prior to the appointment as adviser to Putin in May 2012, Abramov was Russia's deputy presidential chief of staff during 1999-2000, and State Council secretary in 2000-2004. From 2004, he worked as a presidential aide until he was appointed as presidential adviser, Russian media reported.
