A new poll released on Monday showed that one-third of Americans do not accept the theory of evolution.
Reuters reports that the new poll, conducted by the Pew Research Center's Religion and Public Life Project, showed that 60 percent of Americans say that "humans and other living things have evolved over time."
Another 33 percent of Americans say that "humans and other living things have existed in their present form since the beginning of time."
The new poll showed that more Republicans are skeptical about evolution than they were the last time the poll was conducted in 2009, when results showed that 54 percent of Republicans and 64 percent of Democrats where in favor of evolution. Now, only 43 percent of Republicans and 67 percent of Democrats are in favor of the theory.
The telephone survey was conducted between March 21 and April 8 and was done among 1,983 Americans across 50 states.
