Greece's Unemployment Rate Climbs To 28%

Greek unemployment rate rose further in November and reached a new high, data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority revealed Thursday.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate advanced to 28 percent in November from 27.7 percent in October, continuing the trend seen throughout the year. In November 2012, the jobless rate was 26.3 percent.

The number persons without a job increased by 5,698 month-on-month to nearly 1.38 million in November. Annually, unemployment grew by 6 percent.

The unemployment rate for youth, in the 15-24 age group, advanced to 61.4 percent in November from 61 percent in the prior year, the statistical office further noted.

Meanwhile, employment decreased by 35,726 to about 3.55 million during the month, and dropped 3.1 percent compared to November 2012.
