Consumers should immediately stop using Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen capsules, marketed as a product for weight loss and body reshaping, as it contains undeclared drug ingredients with health risks, warns the FDA.

Manufactured by China-based Guangzhou Zi Xiu Tang Biotechnology Co., Ltd, Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen is offered for sale on the Internet, in various retail stores, spas and fitness centers.

There have been a number of reports of adverse events with Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen like heart palpitations, tachycardia (increased heart rate), suicidal thoughts, chest pain, diarrhea, anxiety, insomnia, increased blood pressure and seizure.

Laboratory analyses of Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen products from various distributors in the United States have confirmed the presence of one or both of Sibutramine and Phenolphthalein.

Sibutramine is a substance known to substantially increase blood pressure and/or pulse rate in some patients. Remember, Abbott Laboratories' obesity drug Meridia, which was pulled off the market in October 2010 due to increased risk of heart attack and stroke? The active ingredient in Meridia was also Sibutramine.

Phenolphthalein is a chemical capable of potentially damaging or even causing mutations in a person's DNA. The FDA has classified Phenolphthalein as "not generally recognized as safe and effective."

The distribution of Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen products in the United States has come under scrutiny, and the FDA may issue warning letters or take enforcement action, such as seizures, injunctions and/or criminal charges.
