Cream drummer Ginger Baker has announced the impending release of his first album in 16 years, Why?, due via Motema Music June 24. The LP features Baker playing with his touring group Jazz Confusion.

Baker and his band cover jazz classics and more, according to a presser:

"The music ranges from Wayne Shorter's "Footprints" and Sonny Rollins' 'St. Thomas,' to 'Aiko,' which adapts a Nigerian folk tune. The album's title track echoes Baker's early music with the Graham Bond Organisation, and represents Baker reflecting on his life: on the personal loss he's experienced, the dreams he's had fulfilled and destroyed, asking the question 'why?'"

Baker will support the record with a tour beginning June 14 at Oakland's Yoshi's. The trek continues for 12 more dates and wraps at Montreal's Theatre Maisonneuve.
