Business software maker Oracle Corp. (ORCL) is nearing a deal to buy Micros Systems Inc. (MCRS) for more than $5 billion, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Oracle and Micros are in exclusive talks, though the two sides could still fail to reach an agreement, Bloomberg quoted the people as saying.

Columbia, Maryland-based Micros sells software and services for food and beverage, hotel, and retail industries worldwide. If the deal goes through, it would be Redwood City, California-based Oracle's biggest since its $5.6 billion acquisition of Sun Microsystems Inc. in January 2010.

Oracle is scheduled to report fourth quarter financial results on Thursday.

Micros shares are currently trading at $66.34, up $8.63 or 14.95%, while Oracle shares are trading at $42.61, up 46 cents or 1.09%.
