Japan's economy watchers' assessment of current conditions improved in June, while their expectations weakened, survey data from Cabinet Office showed Tuesday.

The current conditions index improved less than expected to 47.7 in June from 45.1 in May. The score was expected to rise to 48.9. This was the second consecutive rise, but it stayed below 50.

The outlook index, meanwhile, fell to 53.3 in June from 53.8 a month ago.

The outlook has stabilized close to pre-tax hike levels and suggests that the economic recovery will continue in the second half of the year, Marcel Thieliant, an economist at Capital Economics, said.
