NATO has said it does not recognize the election held in the breakaway Caucasian territory of Abkhazia.
Opposition leader Raul Khadzhimba won the presidential election held on Sunday.
This election does not contribute to a peaceful and lasting settlement of the situation in Georgia, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said in a statement on Monday.
NATO Allies do not recognise Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the breakaway regions of Georgia, as independent states.
The Alliance reiterated its full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognised borders.
