Asian Paints Q2 Stand-alone Profit Up 5%

Asian Paints Ltd. reported second-quarter stand-alone net profit of Rs.325.67 crore, up by five percent from Rs.310.60 crore for the quarter ended September 30 last year. Net sales increased by 18 percent to Rs.2,953.50 crore from Rs.2,504.89 crore in the corresponding quarter of the preceding year, while other operating income stood at Rs.42.21 crore, compared with Rs.27.14 crore in the year-ago quarter.

For the half-year, the company's stand-alone net profit rose by seven percent to Rs.634.51 crore from Rs.594.52 crore in the corresponding period last year. Net sales and other operating income increased by 18 percent to Rs.5,736.44 crore from Rs.4,851.73 crore for the comparable period last year.

Consolidated Results

On a consolidated basis, its net profit, after minority interest, rose by six percent to Rs.347.30 crore from Rs.326.84 crore in the year-ago quarter. Net sales and other operating income grew by 17 percent to Rs.3,632.95 crore from Rs.3,114.67 crore in Q2FY14.

For the six-month period, its consolidated net profit, after minority interest, totaled Rs.686.00 crore, up by 14 percent from Rs.602.04 crore a year-ago. Net sales and other operating income increased by 17 percent to Rs.6,995.19 crore from Rs.5,955.76 crore last year.

MD& CEO K.B.S. Anand said, "Double digit volume growth was witnessed across regions in the decorative paint segment. The Automotive coatings JV (PPG-AP), saw good growth in the General Industrial and Auto Refinish segment. The Industrial Coatings JV (AP-PPG), which had seen a decline in the previous year, saw good volume growth in the current year. The international business was led by good growth in markets like Bangladesh, Nepal and Oman."

He added, "We continue to work on our plans for network expansion and streamlining of operations for the Sleek Business. The ESS ESS Bathroom products business which was acquired in the last quarter performed as per our expectations"

At the BSE, Asian Paints shares are currently trading at Rs.647.50, down 0.42 percent from the previous close.
