Petroleum refiner Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) Tuesday reported third-quarter net income attributable to stockholders of $1.1 billion, or $2.00 per share, significantly up from $312 million, or $0.57 per share in the previous year.
On average, 15 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $1.58 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Operating revenues declined to $34.41 billion from $36.14 billion last year. Analysts estimated revenues of $31.58 billion for the quarter.
Refining throughput volumes averaged 2.8 million barrels per day, an increase of 42,000 barrels per day from the third quarter of 2013.
Total costs and expenses fell to $32.74 billion from $35.61 billion a year earlier.
