Bertelsmann, a media and publishing conglomerate, Thursday reported a sharp decline in profit for the nine months ended September 30, despite a rise in revenues.
Bertelsmann, which owns majority stakes in Penguin Random House and RTL Group, said it registered an impairment loss on RTL Group's Hungary operations as well as losses on divestments in Italy and Spain.
Profit for the 9-month period decreased to 285 million euros, from 623 million euros a year ago.
Operating ebitda rose to 1.48 billion euros, from 1.46 billion euros a year earlier.
The company also took charges on the integration of Penguin and Random House and down-scaling of direct-to-customer businesses in Germany.
Revenues increased to 11.82 billion euros, from 11.33 billion euros a year earlier.
