The DASH diet has been named the best overall diet for the fifth straight year by U.S. News & World Report. The diet, which was initially developed as a means to lower blood pressure, has once again beat out Weight Watchers and the Mediterranean diet.

Angela Haupt, senior health and wellness editor at U.S. News & World Report, spoke on the diet saying, "The DASH diet has been our top diet overall for five years now and this is the fifth year we are evaluating and ranking diets. Our experts, who rate these diets for us, say it will end up being very good for your waistline, in addition to your high blood pressure, because it is such a common-sense, balanced diet."

This year 35 diets were reviewed by the report's panel of experts. Other top diets included the TLC diet, the Mayo Clinic diet and Weight Watchers, while the Paleo diet and Dukan diet placed at the bottom of the list.
