2015's Merger Headlines Keep Coming: 7 Big M&A Stories Already This Year

Many analysts predicted that 2015 would see a large amount of M&A activity. So far, there is some evidence they might be right. This year has already seen a fair share of merger headlines.

Recently, reports surfaced that diversified electronics maker TE Connectivity Ltd. is close to a deal to sell its network solutions business to CommScope Holding Co., Inc. (COMM). This according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The paper said the deal is valued at about $3 billion.

This is just the latest in a string of M&A headlines. Here is a list of some of the M&A stories that have made noise so far in 2015:

1. Telefonica In Talks With Hutchison

This multi-billion dollar deal out of Europe would see Spain's Telefonica S.A. (TEF, TDE.L) acquire UK mobile business O2. The deal could be worth about 13.5 billion euros.

All eyes have been on the energy markets lately, with the price of oil and other energy commodities tanking. This spurs industry players to start making moves, like Kinder Morgan's $3 billion deal for Hiland Partners.

3. Mohawk To Buy Belgian IVC

Flooring products manufacturer Mohawk Industries Inc (MHK) has decided to expand in Europe. The U.S.-based firm agreed to buy Belgian sheet vinyl flooring maker IVC Group for $1.2 billion.

4. Family Dollar Stockholders Approve Dollar Tree Merger

The deal has been in place for a while, but 2015 has seen shareholder approval for the $8.7 billion merger between the two low-price retailers.

5. Yahoo! Reportedly Looking To Acquire Cable Networks

This is just conjecture at this point, but Business Insider has reported that Internet giant Yahoo! (YHOO) is looking at the possible acquisition of cable networks, using cash from the sale of its stake in China's Alibaba (BABA).

6. Verizon Approaches AOL On Potential Takeover

Another report, this one also dealing with big media players. According to a Bloomberg report, Verizon (VZ) has approached AOL Inc. (AOL) about a potential acquisition or joint venture.
