Sony Corp.'s (SON.L,SNE) Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. has sold a PlayStation 4 video game console for an eye-popping amount of 15.135 million yen, or about $129,000.
The Japanese electronics giant had held an auction over last weekend for the 20th Anniversary limited edition PlayStation 4 in gray color with serial number 00001 from the run of 12,300 units.
The official Japanese Yahoo! Auction page shows the special edition PS4 received 1,584 bids with the final winning bid at 15.135 million yen.
"We appreciate all who participated in the auction and are surprised at the highest bid price, which was higher than our expectations," a Sony representative said, according a report from Wall Street Journal.
Sony will donate the price paid for the console, along with a matching amount, to Save the Children Japan.
Early this month, Sony said the PlayStation4 or PS4 computer entertainment system has cumulatively sold through more than 18.5 million units worldwide as of January 4, 2015, and that the holiday season retail sales exceeded 4.1 million units globally.
