Spain Industrial Output Falls Unexpectedly In December

Spain's industrial production declined unexpectedly in December, data from the statistical office INE showed Friday.

Industrial output fell by adjusted 0.9 percent in December from a year ago, following a 0.3 percent drop in November. Production was forecast to rise 0.3 percent.

On an unadjusted basis, industrial production increased 2.1 percent, reversing a 0.5 percent fall in November.

Production of consumer goods slid 0.9 percent and that of capital goods decreased 1.8 percent. Energy output fell markedly by 4.8 percent. Only intermediate goods posted an annual growth, up 2.5 percent.

Industrial production declined for the third straight month in December on a monthly basis. Production was down 0.3 percent month-on-month, slower than a 0.5 percent fall seen in November.

In 2014, industrial production registered an average growth of 1.1 percent.
