Responding to media reports regarding speculations on company's LCD business, Japanese electronics maker Sharp Corp. (SHCAY.PK) said that it is currently considering various possibilities for fundamental structural reforms including LCD business, but there are no fact of specific decisions made at this time.
The new Medium-Term Management Plan is currently reviewed and will be announced around May this year.
"On and after April 4, there were several speculative media reports regarding possible spin off of LCD business and funding from Innovation Network Corporation of Japan or INCJ. However, these media reports are not based on Sharp's announcement", Sharp said.
The LCD unit makes small- and medium-size liquid crystal display screens for smartphones. Demand for the screens is growing, but Sharp has struggled to compete with South Korean providers such as LG Display Co. and domestic rival Japan Display Inc., which has been marketing its panels aggressively to makers of low-cost handsets in China.
