Responding to recent speculation, UK-based energy firm BG Group Plc. (BG.L) confirmed that it is in advanced discussions with European oil giant Royal Dutch Shell Plc. (RDS-B, RDSB.L, RDSA.L,RDS-A) regarding a possible offer by Shell for BG.
There can be no certainty that any offer will ultimately be made for BG. A further announcement will be made shortly, BG Group said.
Earlier, there were reports that Royal Dutch Shell was in advanced talks to acquire BG Group in a deal that would likely be valued at upward of $50 billion. The deal could be announced as early as Wednesday.
