Germany Producer Prices Fall More Than Expected In April

Germany's producer prices declined at a slightly faster-than-expected pace in April, figures from Destatis showed Wednesday.

The producer price index fell 1.5 percent year-over-year in April, just above economists' expectations for a 1.4 percent decrease.

In March, prices had fallen 1.7 percent. Producer prices have been falling since August 2013.

Energy prices slid 4.4 percent annually in April, largely influenced by the cheaper prices of petroleum products that plunged by 12.1 percent.

Prices in the consumer goods sector dipped 1.4 percent in April from the previous year and that for intermediate goods sector dropped by 0.7 percent. At the same time, consumer goods sector logged an increase of 1.3 percent.

Month-on-month, producer prices edged up 0.1 percent in April, the same rate of increase as in the previous two months. The expected increase was 0.2 percent. It was also the third consecutive monthly rise.

Excluding energy sector, produces prices were 0.3 percent lower than in April 2014, while it rose by 0.2 percent from the preceding month.
