James Taylor scored his first number one album after his latest Before This World, moved 97,000 units last week, edging out Taylor Swift's 1989, which was knocked down into the two spot.

"After 45-year wait, James Taylor has earned his first No. 1 album on the #Billboard200 chart," wrote Billboard, congratulating Taylor.

Taylor's previous best was 2003's October Road, which sold 154,000 copies in 2002 to reach number four on the charts.

In its review, Rolling Stone writes that the record sees Taylor in a "nostalgic mood."

"With its renewed focus on his voice and guitar — both miraculously unscarred by time and excess — Before This World is the most direct studio record he has made in many years."

Taylor's first album, Sweet Baby James, was released in 1970.
