Thailand's exports declined at a faster-than-expected pace in June, while imports fell at a slower-than-expected pace, figures from the Commerce Ministry showed Monday.

Exports plunged 7.9 percent year-over-year in June, exceeding economists' expectations for a 4.6 percent decrease. In May, exports had fallen 5.0 percent.

Imports edged down 0.2 percent in June from the prior year, much slower than May's 20.0 percent sharp decline. Economists had forecast a 6.8 percent drop for the month.

The visible trade surplus of the country shrank markedly to $0.15 billion in June from $1.67 billion in the corresponding month last year. The expected surplus was $1.98 billion. In May, the surplus came in at $2.4 billion.
