Italy's industrial production increased at a slower-than-expected pace in September, after falling in the previous month, data from the statistical office Istat showed Tuesday.
Industrial output rose a seasonally adjusted 0.2 percent month-over-month in September, below economists' expectations for a 0.6 percent climb. In August, production had fallen 0.5 percent.
On an annual basis, industrial production grew at a faster pace of 1.7 percent in September, marking the third successive monthly rise, following a 1.0 percent gain in August. It was expected to increase by 2.3 percent.
Among sectors, production of capital goods expanded 5.3 percent and that for energy goods climbed by 2.3 percent.
In the three months ended September, total industrial output gained 0.4 percent against the previous quarter.
