Singapore's domestic wholesale sales declined notably in the three months ended September, figures from the Department of Statistics showed Friday.
At current prices, domestic wholesale sales plunged a seasonally adjusted 9.6 percent quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter, reversing a 8.0 percent climb in the previous quarter. Excluding petroleum, wholesale trade dropped 4.2 percent.
Sales of petroleum and petroleum products slumped 16.0 percent and that for ship chandlers and bunkering declined by 18.5 percent.
After removing the price effect, overall domestic wholesale trade grew 1.3 percent over the preceding quarter. On an annual basis, domestic wholesale trade tumbled 26.0 percent in the September quarter, faster than the 18.3 percent fall in the second quarter.
Foreign wholesale trade slid 3.6 percent quarterly in the third quarter and fell 15.1 percent from the corresponding period last year.
