Deerhunter's Bradford Cox has apologized to Billy Corgan after Corgan's lawyer threatened to sue over a story Cox told during a recent performance in Philadelphia.
Cox recounted an encounter he had with Corgan while opening for Smashing Pumpkins in 2007. The story involved a bodyguard tossing Cox against the wall, Corgan verbally berating him, the destruction of Moses Archuleta's drum kit, and eventually the threat of a lawsuit, all for essentially stealing a bottle of water.
The next night Cox continued on with a tongue-in-cheek cover of the Pumpkins' "Today," complete with altered lyrics:
Dear Billy Corgan/ I don't even know you man/ Please don't sue me/ I love my dog/ And I don't have that much money/ And I don't think you're the kind of person/ Who'd starve somebody's dog/ Just to prove a point
After the 10-minute jam concluded, Cox said "Whoever uploads that to YouTube can suck my d**k."
