Greece's unemployment rate decreased unexpectedly in the three months ended September, figures from the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Thursday.
The seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell to 24.0 percent in the third quarter from 24.6 percent in the previous quarter. Economists had expected the unemployment rate to rise slightly to 24.7 percent.
In the corresponding period last year, the unemployment rate was 25.5 percent.
The number of unemployed persons decreased by 1.7 percent compared with the previous quarter and by 5.6 percent compared with the 3rd Quarter of 2014, the agency said.
The youth unemployment rate, which applies to the 15 to 24 age group, dropped to 48.8 percent in the September quarter from 49.5 percent a year ago.
