The manufacturing sector in Australia continued to expand in January, albeit at a slightly slower pace, the latest survey from the Australian Industry Group revealed on Monday with a PMI score of 51.5.

That's down from 51.9 in December, although it remains well above the boom-or-bust line of 50 that separates expansion from contraction.

In all, the index has expanded in seven straight months.

Among the individual components of the survey, new orders, exports, production and stocks were positive, while employment slipped into contraction.
