Former Black Panther activist and philanthropist Afeni Shakur died in the San Francisco Bay Area on Monday.

She died of a possible heart attack at the age of 69.

She was the mother of Tupac Shakur, who died at 25 in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1996.

Afeni founded the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation following her son's death, which is still an unsolved crime.
