The services sector in New Zealand expanded in April, and at a faster rate, the latest survey from Business NZ showed on Monday with a Performance of Services Index score of 57.7.

That's up from the upwardly revised 55.1 in March (originally 54.8), and it moves further above the boom-or-bust line of 50 that separates expansion from contraction.

"April's swift PSI and very solid PMI (performance of manufacturing index), overall, combine to suggest the economy is growing at a better than average pace as it steps into the June quarter," BNZ senior economist Craig Ebert said in a statement.
